Community

Let's build a community in real life.

Retreats, open events, collaborations and a series of conversations with people who never stopped playing — or found their way back to it.

No company, no budget and no invitation required. This is the part of The Playground that is not for sale: it exists because the conversation is worth having and the room is worth being in.

Start here

Retreats for adults who forgot how to play.

Two or three days out of the city with a small group, run with the same method we use with teams who pay us — but with enough time that what happens on the first morning still has consequences on the last night.

I wanna learn moreIn design. Nothing to buy yet.

The list is how the first one actually gets planned — who puts their name down is what decides when, where, and how big it is.

Who for
Small groups. Come alone — most people do
Shape
Two to three days, out of the city
Not
Not a workshop. Not a holiday either
When
No date yet. We are designing it now

What this is

Being a better player is a practice, not a trait.

The same capabilities we work on with teams who pay us — standing losing, improvising, connecting fast, saying the hard thing — can be trained on your own. You just need somewhere to do it.

  • 01

You need rooms where you are not good

If everything you do in your free time is something you already master, you are training nothing. The discomfort of being a beginner in front of others is exactly the muscle.

  • 02

You need people who do not know you

With your friends you already have a role and everyone honours it. In front of strangers you have to choose who you are again, and that is where it shows.

  • 03

You need someone to ask the question at the end

Playing for its own sake is fine. Playing and then being asked what you did and why is a different thing. That part is what changes something.

What we are making

Four ways this shows up, and none of them costs anything.

Community is not a product line. It is where the argument gets tested in public — and where we would rather collaborate with the people already doing something than announce ourselves as the organizers of everything.

  • Free

    Playground Sessions

The open night. You arrive alone, play for two hours with people you do not know, and at the end we run the same debrief we run for teams who pay us.

    Who for
    Anyone, with nothing prior
    Format
    Open event, in person
    Length
    An evening
    Cost
    Free, or at cost
  • Together

    Collaborations

There are already people running good things — festivals, clubs, coworkings, community nights. We would rather bring a Playground lens to one of those than start a competing calendar: design the play part, run the debrief, and leave the audience with whoever built it.

    Who for
    Organizers, venues, clubs, cultural events
    What we bring
The design of the play, and the close
    What we do not
Take over your event or your audience
    Cost
Usually nothing. It is how we learn
  • Series

    Bop It

Conversations about play, people, and the things that keep us alive — with anyone interesting, at any age, from any line of work. Filmed in a ball pit, because an interview about play conducted across a boardroom table is already the wrong answer.

    Who for
Anyone who watches, anyone who wants to be in one
    Format
Interviews. In a ball pit. Yes, really
    Status
    In production
    When
    First episodes being filmed
  • In development

    Common Ground

A way to find what you actually have in common with someone — hobbies, obsessions, the reason you play at all — instead of trading job titles. Built to find playmates rather than contacts, and to make the human bits of a team visible without making anybody socialise.

    Who for
People, and the teams they are in
    What it is
A player profile, and what it has in common with others
    What it is not
    A calendar, a scheduler or a marketplace
    Status
    In design

Also being built

Four more formats we want to run.

None of them has a date. These are the ideas we are landing, and they are here so you can see where this is going — and tell us which one you want most.

All of these are sketches. None has a date, a venue or a price. If one of them calls you, say so below and it moves up the list.
  • 01

    Walk & Talk

A walk with a question. You walk in pairs that rotate, and each stretch brings its own question.

    Sunday morning · 90 min · outdoors

  • 02

    Game Night with Strangers

Board games with people you do not know — chosen for what they reveal rather than for how fun they are.

    Weeknight · 2 h · indoors

  • 03

    Getting Deep with New People

Structured conversation between strangers. No small talk: straight in, with rules that make it possible.

    One evening · 2 h · groups of 4

  • 04

    The Sandbox

A play space for adults, no agenda. Materials, games and time. You come to play whatever you want with whoever you want.

Saturday afternoon · drop in and out

The list

Put your name down and we will tell you first.

Everything on this page is small on purpose, and we would rather tell twenty people who genuinely want to come than announce it to everyone. Tick what you want to hear about — that is also how we decide what to build first.

What do you want to hear about?

Tick as many as you like. You can change your mind later.

Your address, what you ticked, and nothing else. One email when there is a date — no newsletter, and we do not pass it to anyone.

Or just say hello

Not sure which one? Write to us.

If none of the boxes above is quite the thing, tell us what you would actually turn up to. The formats above came from people answering exactly that.
